Leadership in the sandwich-position
Pressure from above
Supervisor in the sandwich-position
Expectations from “below”
As a manager you have limited impact on many stressors. Maybe your hands are tied because of the structure of your company or you have to enforce measures of the corporate management, you would rather not carry out. At the same time, you want to fulfill your duty of care while additionally feeling your staff’s expectations – they want you to care about them.
This seems like a lot of stress.
Of course you will never please everybody. But what you can possibly do is:
Networking with other managers to exchange ideas and experiences that will strengthen your back. And then, courageously give feedback to your management and stand in front of your team. You will find support for this difficult situation in the Action aids – have a look at the problem-solving-training and especially at the topic “Talking to your supervisor about your team”.
At the same time you can promote the health of your team by conducting a psychosocial risk assessment.
