If you as a supervisor are stressed, this stress can spill over to your employees like a virus – you can virtually infect them with your stress. To prevent this from happening to you, you’ll find a few simple tips to cope with stress below.
Generally the same applies for you as for your employees – stress can be reduced in 2 ways:
By reducing stressors and by building up resources
When you feel stress increasing (you feel hot, get nervous etc.):
Try to inwardly distance yourself. Stand back by …
- doing something else (drink a glass of water; breathe deeply 3 times; walk a few steps).
- taking a short break and thinking of something else (your last vacation; your major successes; good friends).
- changing perspective (going somewhere else; talking with colleagues; going to get help).
As you already know, it is very helpful if you write down what is stressing you.
